Gluten Free review of Lucy Buffett’s Lulu’s Restaurant
There is a brand new restaurant in North Myrtle Beach in South Carolina that has awesome Gluten Free options. Hubby and our oldest were off at camp for a few days, so I took the twins and my mother-in-law to the beach for a few days. We had a blast in the pool, sand, and ocean. We stayed at a condo that had a full kitchen so we cooked many of our meals to save the worry of eating out Gluten Free.
Super close to where we stayed is Barefoot Landing. It has a ton of fun shops, restaurants, a winery, and the House of Blues. It is a fun place to walk around any time of day. When we drove by they had a sign that said Lucy Buffett’s Lulu’s was now open. I know that Jimmy Buffett’s chains have really good Gluten Free options so I jumped on my phone to pull up the website for Lulu’s. Sure enough – a HUGE Gluten Free menu.
We went for dinner on a Sunday night. It was busy but not packed. But to be honest it had only been open 8 days! Lulu’s says it is Food, Fun and Music. Well, I can say it is all those things. After reviewing the menu I decided on the pork tacos and we gave our order to the waiter. When I said I was Gluten Free, he said that the manager would be out separately to take my order. A few minutes later a manager came over with a bright red paper and took my order. He asks what foods I had to avoid and answered by question about a separate fryer for the corn chips.
I ordered the nachos with queso dip and salsa for us to share and the pork tacos. The manager brought out a basket of chips for just me and a basket for the gluten-eaters. I personally ate way too many chips. The pork tacos were so tender and flavorful. The pork tasted like it had been in a smoker for hours and just melted in your mouth. I was very happy with the meal.
While we waited for our food, the twins played outside in the ENORMOUS sand play area. I think it was bigger than the restaurant itself. They had a huge bin of sand toys, a water feature, hula hoops and comfy chairs for the grown ups. The kids had a ball and we had to make them come eat their dinner. They inhaled it just so they could go play more.
Once the grown ups finished our dinner we paid and walked out to the play around to watch the kids. My Mother-in-law found us some of the comfy chairs while I went to the bar to get us some adult beverages. A band started playing shortly after we went outside which added to our enjoyment. We sat and talked for over an hour while the kids played. We had to bribe the kids with dessert just to get them out of the sand play area.
The next day we were looking for somewhere to eat for lunch before heading home and we all agreed to go back to Lulu’s.
This time I asked the hostess to put us at a table right next to the play area, since I knew that is where the kids would be spending their time. For lunch I ordered the cheeseburger with the corn chips and salsa as my side. Again a manager took my order and personally delivered it to the table. The burger was very good and very big at 1/2 lb!
I think the kids ate their lunch but they spend 96% of their time in the sand play area.
We all agreed that Lulu’s was our new favorite restaurant in Myrtle Beach. We even hit the gift shop on the way out and bought some goodies to take home.
If you are in the area, I highly recommend you hit up Lucy Buffett’s Lulu’s restaurant. It really is Food, Fun, and Music your whole family will enjoy.
A few tips:
- Yes, they have a dedicated fryer but NO the fries are not safe since they are the battered, seasoned kind
- Get a table close to the play area if you have kids or far away from it if you don’t. We had kids (not ours) with buckets of sand and water running around our table.
- They also have dairy free, egg free, soy free, and shellfish free menus if you avoid those as well
- There are also Lulu’s in the Golf Shore and Destin
Happy Gluten Free Travels!
