Last week hubby and I ran away for a mid-week date night. With the babysitter watching the kids we quickly walked out the door and headed to Outback for dinner. To be honest this was only my second visit to Outback since going Gluten Free because my first visit didn’t end well. I was optimist that this time would be better and it was!
To start with they have a really big Gluten Free menu with loads of options! I’m a meat and potatoes kind of girl so I went with the steak. I ordered the Outback Special which is a 6oz sirloin (they have larger cuts if you want it). My sides were a house salad with ranch (no croutons and mixed in a clean bowl) and a loaded backed potato.
My first steak was not very awesome (couldn’t cut it) so I ate my potato while they made a second steak. The second steak was awesome! Very juicy and flavorful.
For dessert they offer a ridiculously good brownie called the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under. It is a flour-less nut brownie topped with ice cream, whip cream and hot fudge. Hubby and I shared this awesomeness!
The service was very good. The server was very careful to note that all my dishes were Gluten Free. The manager was also very nice about the steak issue and even brought hubby out extra fries.
I’m excited to say we would go back. Outback won me back during this visit.
Eating out Gluten Free is difficult. Just because a restaurant has a Gluten Free menu it doesn’t always mean you will get safe food. The best you can do is educate the staff and ask lots of questions.
Enjoy!

I recently also went to Outback to try their GF menu. I was frustrated that the GF menu doesn’t have pricing on it. I also felt like it was a bit pricey for the actual food quality. That being said, I didn’t have the dessert so my bad, and I didn’t get glutened so that is always a win for me.

The lack of prices is annoying. I had to look at Hubby’s regular menu to see how much everything cost. Glad you had a safe experience

we love to eat at Outback & I have had really good gluten free experiences there too! It’s not on the GF menu, but some of the new mini milkshakes are GF. I had a strawberry one and it was soooooo good!

The milkshakes sound fun! Thanks for the heads up!

Glad to hear you had a successful trip this time! You got the salad so you didn’t run into this, but just a heads up if you get a veggie side make sure you say no butter/seasoning, apparently that’s not GF – and when you order it this way make sure the veggies aren’t shiny when they arrive, that has happened to me more than once. The good news is they correctly cook up an entire new plate when they do that š

Made the biggest mistake every, with that flourless brownie from outback steak house…. I read all the reviews and was thinking it would be okay, but was I ever wrong….. I’m in so much pain, never again….. I don’t eat ice cream so I didn’t even eat that…. Good luck with this dessert, but I will never buy again…..

I have Celiac and ate at Outback Steak house. The waiter told me the cheese fries were gluten free. Well 20 minutes after I left there I had diahrea. I’m not sure what part of my meal it was from. Sirloin steak, backed potato, salad no crutons ranch dressing and Cheese fries. I’m not a happy camper.

They do not have a dedicated Gluten Free fryer, so there is potential for cross contamination in the oil. The fries themselves are Gluten Free but when they are cooked in a shared fryer they can still make you sick. That is my best guess. Hope you feel better soon!
